Deadline looming for Best of Kentucky awards
State government agencies have until April 8 to submit nominations for this year’s Best of Kentucky Technology Awards.
Commonwealth Office of Technology recognizes the best tech efforts in state government annually during the Kentucky Digital Government Summit, an event hosted by Government Technology Magazine. Five awards will be presented this year in the following categories: Visionary Award, Best Application Serving the Public, Most Innovative Use of Technology, Best Risk Management Initiative, and Best IT Collaboration Among Organizations. Kentucky taking aim at delinquent tax debt
A recent computer system upgrade at the Kentucky Department of Revenue (DOR) has led to the collection of more delinquent state tax debt, officials say.
For more than a decade, Kentucky has relied on help from the Federal Treasury Offset Program to collect some of its delinquent income tax debt. The recent implementation of the State Reciprocal Program and the upgrade will make it easier to target delinquent funds owed by vendors and corporations, according to Mack Gillim, executive director of the Office of Processing and Enforcement at DOR. Network upgrade offers greater security, functionality
The state’s network is more secure and now offers greater functionality following a series of recent upgrades, officials said.

FRANKFORT, Ky.– Gov. Steve Beshear’s groundbreaking e-transparency website, Open Door, has once again received top honors as a comprehensive, searchable portal that enables taxpayers to explore how government money is being spent. For the second year in a row, the U.S. Public Interest Research Group (PIRG), a nonprofit, nonpartisan public interest advocacy organization, has recognized the site, online at http://www.OpenDoor.KY.gov, as a leader in setting the standard for spending transparency on government expenditures.
Governor Beshear Announces Matching SBIR-STTR Grants for Kentucky High-Tech Small Businesses
COVINGTON, Ky – Gov. Steve Beshear today joined state and local officials to announce that 14 Kentucky high-tech companies will share more than $4.22 million in state funds as part of a Kentucky initiative to attract and support technology-based small businesses. Through the state’s competitive SBIR-STTR Matching Funds program, Kentucky matches federal SBIR-STTR awards received by Kentucky companies and those willing to relocate to Kentucky. The eighth and ninth rounds of the state awards supplement more than $8.7 million in federal funding the recipient firms have brought to Kentucky.
Kentucky Moves Ahead with Efforts to Adopt Electronic Health Records
FRANKFORT, Ky. (March 8, 2011) – Governor Steve Beshear announced that Kentucky continues to forge ahead with efforts to adopt electronic health records (EHRs), with more hospitals and providers receiving monetary incentives for EHRs and linking to the Kentucky Health Information Exchange (KHIE).
