Commonwealth Office of Technology welcomes new commissioner
Phil Baughn has set his sights on making Commonwealth Office of Technology more efficient, customer centric and transparent.
Baughn, 53, was introduced July 15 as the agency’s new Commissioner and State Chief Information Officer, replacing Finance and Administration Deputy Secretary Lori Flanery who had served in that role on an interim basis. His background in information technology, business, marketing, and sales has been lauded by Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Jonathan Miller, who said he is eager to work with him to improve the efficiencies of information technology across state government.

Demand for state’s eScrap pickup increasing 
The vendor running the state’s eScrap recycling program picked up nearly 400,000 pounds of recyclable eScrap in the month of June, officials said.
Thomas Heil, an environmental scientist with the Kentucky Division of Waste Management, said monthly totals show the state’s eScrap vendor, Creative Recycling Systems, picked up 379,685 pounds of eScrap from more than 50 state agencies, municipalities and school districts throughout the commonwealth in June. 

Kentucky Horse Park officially opens new indoor arena
LEXINGTON, KY (July 15, 2009)  Today, the Kentucky Horse Park secured it's position as the world's leading equestrian venue with the opening of a $45-million, state-of-the-art Indoor Arena.
"If one were to chronicle the highlights of the past decade at the Kentucky Horse Park, a decade already distinguished by significant accomplishments, the opening of our new Indoor Arena stands as the crowning achievement," noted John Nicholson, Executive Director of the park.

Governor awards grant for Union County GIS server
FRANKFORT, Ky. (July 21, 2009) –  Gov. Steve Beshear and the Department for Local Government (DLG) have awarded Union County Fiscal Court a $149,493 Delta Regional Authority (DRA) grant for the installation of a Geographic Information System (GIS) server. 
The GIS server will consolidate existing management data and maps for Union County government agencies and departments and extend usage for other critical government services such as 911 and Emergency Management.
