Kentucky Arts Council Offers 2008 Kentucky Crafted: The ‘Virtual’ Market
This past Kentucky Crafted: The Market on March 8-9, 2008 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville was inundated by 15 inches of snow. The award-winning retail and wholesale trade show featuring nearly 300 exhibitors from all regions of Kentucky continued in spite of the bad weather. Exhibitors could not get out of Louisville and buyers were challenged to make their way to the market.
The Kentucky Arts Council has developed a Web site as a virtual representation of Kentucky Crafted: The Market for 2008. Visitors to the virtual market place at www.kycraft.ky.gov will find photos and contact information for exhibitors offering fine traditional and contemporary crafts and art, Kentucky Proud specialty food products, books and music recordings. The online slide show also includes award-winning exhibitors, retailers and volunteers, along with various activity areas, participating arts and cultural organizations, the silent auction and the reception that contribute to the 26 years of success of Kentucky Crafted: The Market.
“Kentucky Crafted: The Market has always been an important economic development tool for the commonwealth and a major sales event for Kentucky’s artists and artisans,” said Arts Council Executive Director Lori Meadows. “We hope this virtual market can alleviate some of the missed opportunities as a consequence of the bad weather we experienced during the 2008 Market."
The next Kentucky Crafted: The Market is scheduled for Feb. 21-22, 2009 at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky.
Kentucky Crafted: The Market is produced annually by the Kentucky Arts Council, a state agency in the Commerce Cabinet that creates opportunities for Kentuckians to value, participate in and benefit from the arts. Funding for the Kentucky Arts Council is provided by the Kentucky State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts, which believes that a great nation deserves great art.
