Statewide Wireless Communication Services Contract Awarded
The Commonwealth Office of Technology (COT) recently announced that AT&T Wireless has been awarded a new, statewide contract for wireless communication services, including voice or cellular and wireless data services.
The new contract for wireless services was effective Nov. 17, 2007. COT is currently working with AT&T Wireless and state agency representatives on a transition and implementation plan. An internal kick-off presentation for state agencies is planned to display equipment and discuss the services and new processes that will be implemented as a result of the new contract.
Agencies have been asked to appoint contacts who will be responsible for assisting with the transition to the new contract. During the implementation period, COT plans to communicate with the appointed agency wireless contacts to ensure a smooth transition. COT anticipates that several thousand internal accounting profiles and rates will need to be changed within a very limited time frame. Along with those changes, there will be training for a new online request and management system that will be used to request wireless services and manage agency wireless accounts.
During the transition, AT&T Wireless will only honor emergency requests for new or upgrade services to enable the company to focus on the transition to the new contract. Once the transition is complete, routine procurement processes will be in place.
Questions about the new contract may be submitted to COT’s wireless support staff via e-mail at Wireless.Support@ky.gov.
