KYGEONET Launches Web Site to Highlight Internet Mapping
The use of Internet Mapping is on the rise in the commonwealth. Statistics from the Kentucky Geography Network (KYGEONET) indicate that a growing number of people are accessing maps via the Internet for a variety of reasons. As a way of showcasing the vast amount of mapping information available, the Commonwealth Office of Technology's Division of Geographic Information created an online slide show.
The slide show displays random map images viewed by visitors to Kentucky Internet mapping sites such as the KYGEONET, the Kentucky Mine Mapping Initiative and maps maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet. It is interesting to note that these images represent less than 30 minutes of activity on each of the sites and only selected images were utilized due to size or applicability. As a result, the images represent only a small sample of the activity taking place on Kentucky's Internet map site. The images demonstrate the wide variety of topics covered by the Kentucky Internet Map site and show how visitors are taking advantage of this rich resource. Many of the maps shown in the slide show can be accessed via the Kentucky Geography Network (http://kygeonet.ky.gov) or from Kentucky.gov (http://kentucky.gov/gis/).
