E-Filing Takes Off!
Every year at this time, Techlines features a State Stat on the number of people moving from paper to electronic tax filing. As of March 1, 2005, 93 percent of all individual income tax returns filed so far with Kentucky's Department of Revenue have been e-filed. That's over 511,000! Last year, at the same time, the number was 432,000 returns, or 74.6 percent.
“The Department of Revenue receives in excess of three million pieces of mail between January and May of each year and paper returns must be opened, sorted and manually entered,” Finance and Administration Cabinet Secretary Robbie Rudolph said. “Electronic filing allows your information to go directly into the system, reducing error and delay and allowing your refund to be direct deposited to your financial institution.”
Typical processing times for current year returns with no errors are:
-
7 to 10 days for electronic filed returns
-
2 to 3 weeks for paper returns with 2D barcode
-
6 to 12 weeks for traditional paper returns
